STINKS LIKE SCAM / HUELE A TIMO

Para fraseando a Manuel Summers, to er mundo no é güeno. Resulta que hay por la red una estafa que consiste en hacerte un ingreso "suculento" de dinero vía Paypal a cambio de que tú hagas a su vez otro menor por Western Union o Money Gram. Luego el timador reclama ese dinero a Paypal, pero tú, en ningún momento, puedes hacer eso con la Western. Ese dinero lo pierdes seguro y también esa suculenta cantidad al devolversela Paypal al estafador.

Un ejemplo (basado en hechos reales): un supuesto comprador se pone en contacto con vosotros porque está interesado en compraros un original de vuestra colección. No pone pega alguna al precio. Todo le parece perfecto. Te dice que te paga por Paypal por algún motivo en particular. En mi caso decía que trabajaba como oficial militar en un barco y no podía hacer transferencia bancaria. Me pedía cierta urgencia para cerrar el trato porque se trataba de un regalo para su "abuela" (sic). Un poco raro, sí. Luego me dice que me ingresa un extra más, ligeramente desproporcionado, para sufragar los gastos que me ocasionarán que un servicio de paquetería venga a recoger el original a casa y se lo lleve. Ese "extra", unos cuantos cientos de dólares, yo a su vez tendría que reenviárselos por Western Union al servicio de paquetería -se supone que un compinche-.

¿Dónde está el truco? Pues que te hacen el ingreso por Paypal, tú haces el envío a la Western Union, el timador reclama a Paypal su dinero, Paypal se lo devuelve, tú reclamas a la Western y te quedas a dos velas porque no hay manera de recuperarlo una vez recogido.

Y ahora todo esto y en versión original en inglés, para que practiquéis y no lo dejéis este verano que luego me veo repasando en septiembre:

I wanted to ask if it was ok for me to include my pick up agent's fees in the payments I am about to send through paypal to your paypal account?My pick up agent charged $400 dollars plus insurance. After I have made the payments you forward the $400 dollars to my pick up agent through (Western Union Money Transfer).

This i would have done myself and not bother you but  I am currently at sea. I just wanted to seek your consent before going ahead with the payments. I will more than appreciate if you mail me back.I have calculated the price of the item plus the fee's for the pick up agent coming to pick up the item and Western Union charges. The total is $1,700 dollars.I will be making the payments as soon as you get back to me to proceed on the payment. I could have asked you to use UPS or other service but N.B UPS or Fedex and others does not deliver to my grandma address.

PS: The shipping company's head quarters and any pick up fee to be paid is sent to their head quarters by the payee, so the money for pick up will be sent to their head quarters through Western union money Transfer.

This can be done from any post office, Western Union or Money Gram."

Y ahora, también en inglés, dónde está el punto débil del asunto:

"It is a classic scam - do not enter this deal in any way. He will send you Paypal payment - and then ask Paypal to refund it. But then you have already sent 400 USD to him or his friend - and they cannot be refunded by Western Union. This happens every day on the net, sadly."
